Disable auto-restart after Windows updates in Windows 7 Premium?

Does anyone know how to disable auto-restart after Windows updates in Win 7 Premium? I put my laptop to sleep every night before I go to bed, and sometimes it installs stuff even while it's sleeping (no idea how that happens), and restarts the computer afterwards. That means my laptop is burning the entire night without me knowing, and I would find the computer restarted and at the log-in screen in the morning! This is VERY annoying and has happened multiple times already. Does anyone know how to:

1) DISABLE auto-restart after updates
2) DISABLE auto-update when the laptop is sleeping (it's SLEEPING for a reason goddamit)

I still want auto-updates, but ONLY when I'm actually using the laptop. After updating I want no auto-restart, rather I want to manually restart the computer if I feel like it.

I'm using Premium version of Win7, so there is no gpedit.msc (yes I did some googling)!

Thanks!

Yes I do need auto-update, and don't answer if you have nothing to contribute. Judging from your signature you hate Windows 7, so what're you even doing in this thread?

7 works well. im using 7 pro.
goto control panel system & security.
you can change there.
I goto manually to www.update.microsoft.com
I look at the updates. will they help fix my problem. (maybe not) don't need it.
Critical and security. BUT even with auto or manual the option is there when to boot.
Lots of time they might take effect until dos and reboot to implement.
7 is good. now or later.
tremmor

A few still run with the oldies. 98 2nd edition and 95 osr2.
Don't know why though. Old school i guess. don't use credit cards
and pay bills with it. its an easy play and no support at all.
its a freebie for theft.

LoooooooooooooL!!!Just ignore my signature I wrote that as a joke xD

Anyway...just go to the SYSTEM SECURITY options section and there put that you want to be ONLY notified about the UPDATES,but do NOT want them automatically installed unless you confirm that you want.

Cheers Windows 95! xD
Windows 7 go barry your self! xD (Joke again =D )

I believe that the best option for update is to apply only the ones that you need. Security updates, and some general improvements. There are lots of updates put out that have no general use. They are meant for a very specific task, and if your not doing that task, then all they manage to do is take up hard drive space.

Agreed. Security, critical and will it fix my problem. Or i leave it alone and put on the do not install list for updates.

I will never understand why people keep updating their systems with every single update that exists on the internet...that is so stupid and unneccessary, not to mention that most of the users who do that do not even know what they are updating and why. They just "know" that it is an "update" (up to date) and they think that will keep their system to run perfectly what is not true at all.I do not use updates AT ALL.The only updates I have ever installed on my XP system were SP1,SP2 and SP3,but that's it...And guess what...the system runs perfectly...I mean...ALL THOSE thousands of the updates are so unneccessary, unless you REALLY need them for a specific task then yes you WILL install them, but otherwise what's the point.............. Oh yea I know why...because it is UP-TO-DATE.........ahhh lol.Dates are the LAST thing that people should care about...
And don't give that SECURITY REASON crap lol.If you want security then install good antivirus program and keep THAT updated instead of the entire OS what is completely stupid and unneccessary not to mention that it takes a LOT of space on your HDD and you risk and risk and risk your OS until the BSOD..............
