i've been getting these at startup for months now. i am not sure what hardware it is referring to but i think it may be my g5 or my headphones. i dont want to install software for either and i want the messages to stop displaying whenever i start my PC. how do i disable them?

also, there is always a safely remove hardware icon in my tray that i want to go away too :)

thanks in advance

To disable the driver check on XP:

Right click My Computer-> Select Properties -> Hardware tab - Windows Update -> Never search Windows Update for drivers

Vista: Right Click Computer -> Properties -> Advanced system settings -> Hardware -> Windows Update driver settings -> Never check

You can hide the Safely Remove Hardware icon: Right click start -> Properties -> Taskbar tab -> customize -> locate the icon and select always hide

Right click Computer and select Device Manager. If you see a yellow question mark next to any item, right click that item and select disable.

Were you able to hide the tray icon?

You can't completely remove it, as far as I know. You can hide it from showing up in the "permanent" tray, but it will always be there when you expand the tray. Someone correct me if that's untrue. :)
