Disabling onboard video?

Just installed a new video card in my Vaio, and my friend said I need to disable the onboard video before it will work, so how do I do this?

Either in the BIOS (press del usually at startup) and there may be an option to disable the onboard video. Alternatively, you may need to open the computer again and change a jumper on the motherboard, depending on the MoBo.

yeh there should be an option in the bios which can make your pci/agp the first video device - select that. this si for other mobos whih maybe dont ahve a disable onboard option

Which motherboard has an explicit disable option?

I was pointing more to the fact that there are options within the BIOS where on-board graphics can be turned off in favour of a installed card. OK, the option probably reads something more like "Make PCI / AGP card primary Boot display adapter" or the like. As the exact Mobo was unknown, I was simply trying to point him towards the BIOS so that he could then hopefully find the correct option.......sigh...........

I think my onboard video was automatically disabled, and used my gfx card when I installed it.
the HP machine I have also autodisables onboard video when an addin video card is installed

Yeah and I was asking you which mobos have that (ok now i'll ask you "which BIOSes have that?")
