Disc drive query

Im pretty sure about this issue, just want to check with you guys. I'm in the middle of installing my Asus Crosshair Formula 3 motherboard, but my query is there's only one IDE port.

Am i right in thinking that, to plug my DVDrom into the motherboard, i have to use an adapter and run it as a slave from my hard drive?

So in otherwords, should it go, cable comes out of motherboard and into hard drive, midway cable comes out of that one, and into DVDrom?

Many thanks! :)

I would invest in a SATA hard drive and leave the IDE for the dvd rom. You can put the hard drive and dvd rom on the same cable but its not preferred. The IDE cable should have 3 connectors on it, with the connector by itself going to the motherboard and the 2 connectors together for the dvd rom and hard drive. If you want to do that put the hard drive on the connector thats at the end of the cable and set the jumper to master, put the dvd rom on the connector close the hard drive and set the jumper to slave. However, you would have to put the hard drive in one of the cdrom bays and you would need an adapter to put it in there. Like I said before, I would just invest in a SATA hard drive and leave the IDE cable for the dvdrom.
