Disk Boot Failure - Need Help

Hello,

So, Tuesday evening was the initial day this problem arose. I am now booting up and it says "DISK BOOT FAILURE - PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND HIT ENTER".

A COUPLE THINGS
- I did not change anything in bios
- I put the XP disk in the CD rom drive and hit R, but it could not find anything
- When I go into bios, played around a bit and the boot order is CD, removeable, hard disk.
- When I go into bios, my hard drive is not listed ANYWHERE.

QUESTION:
-Does this necessarily mean my hard drive is toast?
-How do I get it to recognize and get my butt back to the desktop

Thank you for your help very much!

Most likely your drive is dead. It could be the controller, but not as likely. Since it sees your cdrom, you can cable the harddrive to the secondary controller just to see if it's recognized. If it isn't then it's likely toast.

Also don't forget to check and make sure all cables are in firmly. Also see if you feel any vibration or hear any noise from the drive when it gets powered on to see if it's electronically dead.
