Disk boot failure:(

I've just put a new hardrive (Maxtor IDE DiamondMax Plus9 PATA 80Gb 2Mb Cache Hard Disk Drive <9.0ms 7200rpm - OEM).
I completed the first installation of windows xp, then it rebooted my computer, as normal. But when it reboots it goes straight back to the start of the xp installation. If i turn the computer on without a disc in this message comes up...

Verifying DMI pool data....
Boot from Atapi CD-Rom : Failure...
Disk boot failure, Inset Sytem disc and press enter

I have gone into the standard Cmos features and selected the IDE primary master to auto. But it still shows None :(

After the format using the Windows XP cd and then the computer restarting, you dont press any key when it prompts you to in order to load the Windows XP cd do you? After it has finished formatting and copying over the required system files and then restarts, just dont touch it, sit back and watch, see if it goes any further.. Also, upon the restart after it has copied the system files over, turn the cd-rom drive as the second boot device and set the hard disk as the first.

Because you interupted the format by taking the cd out and not letting it restart, you might have to format and do as prompted by the Windows CD again one last time.

After the first reboot you should boot to the harddive and leave the cd in. Sounds like you have the boot loop. Its booting back to the cd and starts the install over
 
Breaks is correct. DO NOT PRESS ANY KEYS when it reboots. If you press the key to boot to the cd its going to start over just let it go and it will go to the next step. Try it one more time and this time after it restarts just dont touch it and let it go you do not have to boot from the cd it will already have put the image needed on the hdd to continue from that point!
 
k, well it went throught, and i didnt press anything, and it still went to the start of the xp intalation. Any other ideas?

When it restarts, go straight into your bios, remove the cd drive with the Windows CD in it from the boot sequence, set the hard disk as the first boot device, and then save and exit, leaving it alone when done this. It should boot from the hard drive and finish installing. But don't switch the machine off at any point, do this immediately once the Windows format and system file copying has finished and reboots automatically.
 
Breaks has a good idea and i would say you should try that one and see what happens. Thats very strange it would automatically go back to the install like taht hmm..
 
Yeah agreed. I've never heard of the Windows CD initialising without anyone having pressed any key. Just out of curiosity, is this a legal copy of Windows?
 
sounds like you're just not letting the installation fully complete your pc reboots once or twice during the installation
 
it now comes up with basically the same message...

disk boot failure, insert system disck and press enter.

its as if it doesnt see the hardrive. but its definatly connected correctly becuase windows setup can see it.
 
If this is a legit copy like you say it is, and your not touching anything like you say your not, this makes me believe you have a bigger issue like a hdd notbeing recognized which could be settings could be death of a hdd. Can you go into bio's and see if the hdd is recognized by your computer?
 
Thought it would have been the boot sequence as I've had a similar issue myself. Although mine never automatically booted into the cd after it had already been formatted with it :S.

Congrats on it working.
