disk check for consistantcy freeze at boot

so i keep getting asked to check consistancy of my hdd at bootup. sometimes it lets me skip but when i let it through it freezes at one second and does nothing. it will not go through.

also i tried to reinstall windows. i get near the final steps, choose home network, and it says its setting up settings but does nothing. also, the upgrading process is extremely slow then what i remember.

what could be problem? my hdd? is my motherboard bad? should i take out the battery to reset the bios? ive had to force shutdown a lot the past few days bec of the errors i get setting up two video cards.

pick your hard drive from that list, download the utility, and run it (it is bootable I think, rather than needing to be run from a windows environment), it will check your hard drive. Should it fail, you are right when you say your hard drive is the issue.

When you say it "does nothing" have you given it a minute or 2 and assume it has hung? As stupid as it is to give no response, it will sometimes take quite a while to get past 1 point, so it may be better to just leave it for a while and see if it gets past it
 
i took out the motherboard battery for abour 3 mins and put it back in, I was able to get though the consistancy check and i did a clean download of windows 64bit. while it keeping my old files in the windows.old.

I am still unable to get my dual video cards to run windows though, been waiting for a few days to call amd as my last resort since i cant find answers anywhere but it is canada thanksgiving so i cant contact them till tomorrow.

my system is compatable in every way with crossfire so i dont see why i have this problem.

if amd cant fix it, then i guess ill sell my two 5770s and buy a 5850
 
You got Catalyst AI set to advanced? crossfire bridge connected? sometimes its the most basic things, i've forgotten to plug in my main 24-pin mobo connector before. :S
 
Well the procedure I did was as follows...

-Download 10.9 full software + drivers to my desktop
-Delete the driver from the device manager display tab
-Express uninstall the software in the control panel
-Turn off the computer
-Put in the 2nd video card in the second Peg(pci-e) slot
-Connect the video cards with the bridges
-Turn on the computer (windows does boot when the drivers are not downloaded)
-Download the 10.9 drivers from my desktop
-Restart the computer so they take effect

then then computer fails to boot, either staying at the "windows starting" screen, or goes to the password screen (i punch it in and it goes to a blue screen)
the two blue screen errors i have seen are

System_????_exception
and
Memory_management
 
I just did my HDD extended test on the WD data lifeguard diagnostics.

after nearly 2 billion sectors scanned I passed.

Rules out my hdd
 
yea, the two BSODs i have seen are as follows...

System_Service_Exception
and
Memory_Management

nearly every time i see the fist one
 
Download memtest from here:

and leave it running for as long as you can, ideally 8+hours. If you get any errors at all int he time, it is almost certain that your memory is causing your problems.

If you can't run it because windows keeps BSODing/hanging/whatever else, you can download memtest from here:

http://www.memtest.org/download/4.10/memtest86+-4.10.iso.zip

extract it, then burn it to a disc (make sure you burn as an image/.ISO disc, otherwise it will store the file, but not make it bootable) and you can boot from that disc and check your memory. Same thing, test for as long as you can, preferably 8+ hours, and any errors will be flagging up memory problems
