Disk Clean up

Heyy, am not too sure why this is but when i do a Disk Clean Up, and when it says "Compressing Old Files" it doesnt move, i ask a mate and he says yeah it would take hours, but i left it on from 12 and came back at 5 and it was still on that part, can anyone please help me! :(

Unless you're really tight on space, I really wouldn't suggest compressing files. It will cause your computer to run much slower.
 
yeah and if your at the stage when you need to compress, then it would take ages coz youve got no space.
 
Yeh but i want to do a disk clean up on my hdd, and it goes through that first...i think :S:|
 
do any of you actually use disk cleanup :P. when you click disk cleanup it says scanning: compress old files...i think this is what he is refering to!


EDIT: it shouldnt take long at all infact mine was so quick i had to try 3 times to get that shot!

ok I know how to fix this. This has something to do with the registry. You may thing it doesnt but give me a few mins to think up the keys for ya. :)
 
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches

Click tab compress old files
delete everything inside restart fixed. you may clean again :)
