Disk Cleaner vs Registry Cleaners

Is disk cleaning same as Registry cleaning? Are registry cleaners safe to use, or should I be worried I may loose data I won't be able to recover?

no there not the same registry cleans and fixes registry errors and disk cleaners remove all your cookies and other crap registry cleaners seem to be safe you shouldnt loose any data

I prefer cleaning the Registry by hand as I dont trust reg cleaners except CCleaner.
