Disk Defrag

I understand what defragmentation is and how it works..

I was just curious as to:
1. How often you guys/girls defrag...
2. How long it usually takes for you guys/girls to defrag...

Set up the disk defrag to scan automatically. This eliminates the need to remember to do it at a specific time. As to how long the defrag will take, this depends on the condition of the data on the drive. For instance if you have never defragged a drive then it will take a considerable amount of time. If you scan regularly then the time goes down.

I have my machine defrag automatically but I check it about once a month to see what shape the drives are in. A defrag at that time takes about 3 minutes.

Every day if I remember. Takes about a minute or a little better.

i use diskeeper, and it just automatically works while the computer's idle

don't remember the last time i actually did a manual defrag

Yeah, I use Diskeeper 2007 Pro too, on automatic defrag now. No more manual defrags since Diskeeper defrags when the system is idle and does it well. Automatic FTW!

When I tried out the manual defrag earlier before switching to auto, Diskeeper took about 5-8 mins for a moderately fragmented 65 GB partition. I used to defrag every week then.
