hi ..

i have a Dell optiplex GX270 cpu currently running with windows xp OS servicepack 3version. pentium 4 processor 2.80 Ghz RAM 1GB and 2.79 GB.

whenever i try to boot my system,it says the following :

" a disk read error occured . Press alt+ctrl+del to restart "

i tried alt +ctrl+del to restart but it again gives me the same message after rebooting..what should i do?

pleas e help me...

Go into the BIOS and change the boot order so the HDD boots first. Make sure you have all floppies, cd's or usb devices unplugged. If you still have problems booting it's possible that your HDD has failed or your OS install is corrupt.

booting problem..

yeah..HDD u are talking about is the hard disk drive right? i checked it...the sequence is fine

HARD DISK DRIVE C:
INTEGRATED NIC
IDE CD ROM DEVICE
DISKETTE DRIVE..

but it still doesn't work..Do i have to reinstall the OS?or is there any other way that i can troubleshoot the problem

Insert the OS disc and get to the screen where it says "continue with installation press enter, to begin repair press r" at this screen, press "r".

Once you get to the command prompt it will ask you to select the windows installation or it'll just go straight to C:. At that point type "chkdsk /r" let it go through this process, it will take a while, but might fix the issue.
