What Is Using My Disk Space?
My old laptop has 4GB. I defragmented the C disk several times over the last couple of years. Now the used disk space has crept up to nearly that, leaving only 200-300MB at any one time. I have nothing unusual as far as programs go, and I do not have a media player or anything like that hooked up - just the basics. I have moved as many documents as possible to the D disk, and also as attachments on my Hotmail account.

At 200-300MB, there is no ability to defragment.

I use a CCleaner, and Eusing Registry Cleaner regularly.

Vista? Go to "My computer" Right click the c drive (main) and click "properties". On the general tab click the "disk cleanup" button. Wait for it to load. When it does click the "more options" tab and click "cleanup" in the "System Restore and Shadow Copies" Section. Then click delete when it pops up then push 'ok". That should clear a few gigs.

More Options

I did not know that More Options existed. I really thank you for showing me that!!!! I have XP; so I did it and it gave me 100 more MB. Still not enough, but a step forward.

I checked my files over 400 MB, and have a lot of .dll files, some for things I do not use, like Yahoo Messenger, Outlook Express, etc. Also some setup files. Can I delete any of these safely?

Look in the following folders to find stuff to delete. You can look in your programs folder and delete stuff there also. Go to run and type %temp% and delete anything in there. Then go to run and type %appdata% and delete and folders that correspond to stuff you uninstalled a while ago. If you wanna get rid of more hidden stuff I recommend you get tuneup utilities 2008!

go into ie, tools, delete browsing history. There you can delete temp. internet files, i don't know if that was g25racer was talking about. you can also delete cookies, and i find that form data tkes up enough space to delete it unless you really want them.

Yeah thats what I was talking about. Plus Ccleaner should do all that and more!
