Display doesn't take up the whole screen...

I had it working fine... then I went to messing around with videocards.. and now no matter what gpu I use it leaves like an inch on the sides and 3/4 inch on the top and bottom. It's just black space. The BIOS is the same way. Nothing every uses that space. When i hook my xbox up to the display it takes up the whole space perfectly fine. I tried messing with resolutions and frame rates. Nothing changes. I reset my monitor to factory settings and played around getting no results. What's going on!

If you've got the correct drivers installed for the video card and all dated drivers uninstalled then its just a matter of manually adjusting your screen through the monitor. It's just a matter of expanding the top to bottom size and the left to right size. You'll see the icons in your monitor menu.

I can't do that. My monitor only has two setting full or 4:3 it won't let me do anything else I already tried. I just put in a new hard drive and installed windows 32 bit home edition. Same thing. It's nothing to do with drivers it's like my mobo is retarted or something.

I've seen this before. It's definitely in the BIOS setting, but I can't remember what it's called. If you reset the BIOS setting to default it should take care of the issue.

i dont know if you have ccc with that card.
for me its in the ccc>advanced>graphics drop down menu>desktops and displays>display icon at the bottom right, right click>configure> attributes tab> select 'scale image to full panel size'> 'scaling options' tab> overscan.

hope it helps.

I suggest going into your video card software and adjusting the screen size if possible. A lot of the time it's as simple as that, the video card software has the means to adjust screen size and positioning. Perhaps try rotating it 90 degrees and see what that says. It also might be an issue with your VGA/ DMI connection on your monitor. Like you said your xbox works fine. Perhaps try a DMI to HDMI cable - use a different connection on your monitor. It sounds to me like it is the connection you are using, and that your monitor is the problem. Also perhaps try another monitor, and/or another video card if possible, to narrow down what the problem is.

Thanks for the replies guys. Just like to say a few things here:

I've tried two different video cards, all outputs of those cards, both dvi (or whatever that is), hdmi, and vga. I have also tried this on two different hard drives with two different operating systems; one of which is a fresh install with all updates and everything.

I don't have ccc on this newer install but I will try what you guys have said. I will see if I can't get it working that way.

I still say that its the monitor that needs adjusting. All monitors have a menu to where you can adjust the horizontal and vertical dimensions of the screen.

Mine has it but it doesn't allow me to change any values. It is grayed out.

Also how do you change the screen size using CCC?

Not very familiar with those options in catalyst but how are you connecting your monitor? VGA? DVI? HDMI? If it's VGA you should have options to adjust the screen, DVI will not as it is digital. And I have no clue about HDMI.

If you're using DVI then the problem lies in catalyst/windows screen options

I've tried both DVI and HDMI. Same effects. I also used hdmi with my xbox and it works fine which is why I think it's the computer not the monitor.

It's definitely an issue in catalyst... Since I never had to fiddle with that part of catalyst I have no experience... All I can recommend is using catalyst install manager to uninstall catalyst, download the latest 10.11 suite and install that.

Did that on both hard drives... changed nothing... I can't find any options to change screen dimensions or anything like that. This is such an annoying thing lol

its not your video card, its your monitor, i had the same issue with my LG 24" flatron, i figured out that you have to go into your INF file of the nvidia installation files and place a line of code that tells the inf file what your monitor is...i got lucky and found the code on the web, youll have to find yours somehow. you place the line of code under all the HKR switches, here is what mine looks like, but you have ATI so im not sure if this works the same way

HKR,, OverrideEdidFlags0, %REG_BINARY%, 1E,6D,3F,56,00,00,FF,FF,04,00,00,00,7E,01,00

Is it the card in your sig?
Do you have ccc?
in ccc try navigating to graphics drop down menu then monitors, when you get to monitors there will be a large pane with a suedo monitor screen, and on the bottom of the screen<right click that bottom one. then configure. then there will be tabbed options,,,thumb thru those until you find 'overscan'.
