Display issue

I have a Dell Inspiron N4110 laptop. The display has a lot of horizontal and vertical lines (colored) and a black spot in the lower right corner. My first guess is the display is bad.

My question is: How can you be sure its the display versus the GPU? I have never troubleshot a display before.

Attach an external monitor to the vga port if you get the same thing then its the video if not then its the screen.

Thanks John. Its the screen. Do you by chance know of a reputable place to purchase screens?

I purchased a screen from here a couple weeks ago. Arrived and put it in and no issues.

Make sure you remove the bad screen and enter the model number into the website.
