Display Issues

I put together a computer from scratch for the first time last summer. For a while I had zero probles with the machine, but eventually I started having problems getting the monitor to display anything when I booted the machine. A restart always fixed the problem and so I didn't worry about it.

2 months later I bought a new Hyundai LD90+ 19" LCD screen to replace my old CRT, and I hoped the display issue would go away, instead the problem remained, and eventually I would only get a display by booting the machine, turning the monitor on, waiting for about 30 seconds and rebooting, leading me to believe that the monitor needed "warm-up" time to display, but turning the monitor on 30 second before an initial boot didn't seem to do anything.

I suppose I was still in denial that there was a problem, because I didn't bother to do anything about it. But now, I can't get a display at all, no matter what I do.

The monitor is hooked up to my BFG 6800GT 256MB via DVI and is powered by a Seasonic S12-500 PSU. I really don't know much about the internal workings of computers, but my gut feeling is that there's a problem with the video card since I was having this problem with the old monitor, however, like I said, I really don't know much.

Anyone have ideas about how to fix this?

i dont think that the old monitor in combination with a new graphics card, im using a monitor thats absolutly ancient lol.
i think you should try updating your motherboard bios. other than that there may be an issue with your graphics card thats causing this

I know it's not an issue of monitor age, the old one worked, kind of, just like the new one.

I tried connecting the monitor via VGA cable instead of DVI, and all I got was a "no signal" screen, plus a very horrible sounding fan noise which may or may not be related.

I don't know how I'd update my BIOS without any display.. looks like I might have to call BFG.

now you mention that problem with the connections i would definately say that you should contact the manufacturer
