display problem

Hello,
I have a Compaq Pressario 2100. Intermittantly the screen suddenly freezes, blue horizontal lines appear all over the screen, and the edges of the screen turn blue (or brown) and seep inwards (as if burning towards the middle.) Any ideas on what this could be would be greatly appreciated!!!

1. Is it possible the monitor is shot?
2. WHat are you doing when this happens or does it happen seemingly random

random random random. there is no way of telling when it will happen. it then clears up after a moment or two.
it is a laptop, and i am thinking the display is going. i have taken it in twice for service, but as the problem is intermittant, they just check the software and send it back.
i can't find anything on the web.
thank you for your help!

Is it still under warranty? Screw service, try and get it RMA'd :) One way you can rule out the possibility of the LCD is by pluggin a normal monitor into it... if you stil get the problems then the port/system is messed :)

thank you so much. i returned it to bestbuy (for the 4th time) we will see if they honor their repalcement policy.....
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
:)

This probably belongs in a separate thead - but until a moderator moves it - here is a link that will help you find different suggestions:

Basically, the CMOS battery is the culprit.
