Display problems

Ok so i have an old compac persario and the display is only in 2 or 16 color and i would like 16 bit. I know it used to have a better display. What do i need to do. Thanks
 
Reinstall the drivers? When did it start doing this? Did you do anything with/to the computer right before it happened? We really need more info on this, such as the video card, the operating system, and the things I asked about in previous sentences.
 
Ok it has windows 98se. the drivers are the problem i belive but i cant find them. Its video display card is built into the motherboard. The computers hard drive was totally wiped and a friend and i reinstalled windows. The audio has the same problem.
