displaying vista on TV

Hi everybody,

im trying to display my dell d630 laptop running vista business on my tv via a vga to scart cable.

the tv starts buzzing as soon as I connect the two and the computer recognises the tv is there and allows me to move windows well clear of the laptop screen. as soon as I move the window off the computer screen the tv just buzzes at a different frequency but doesnt display anything.

any ideas what else I can try?

being digital I dont suppose the tv has to be tuned in to the computer, does it. it only buzzes on one channel which happens to be the same channel I have the PS3 running through.

hmm, i think if you are using scart then you just have to switch to that channel. otherwiese, do you not have a vga to vga, the display must have a vga plug. what kind of graphics card do you have??

re graphics card im not really sure. I found something on the control panel that refers to "NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M" if that makes any sense to you. What ever graphics card I have it works brilliantly when I connect it to my plasma tv which sports a VGA port. The TV I want to connect it to is quite a bit older and only has scart sockets.

that may be the problem. while the scart connector allows to connect to older tvs without a vga port that doesn't mean the tv can support it. Just an idea.

if you have the nvidia control panel, connect to the TV, and click on the nvidia control panel. (right click on desktop and in the options there you should see the control panel) make sure you are on the right chanel on the TV, and when you start up the panel the computer should detect the tv. go to the options on the left bar to set up multiple screens, and there if you computer supports that tv and if the tv supports your connection then it should be there and you will see the picture on the screen. try if not, then it probably does not work,

Thanks for your help lads, I think ill have to concede this one is a dead loss!

Whats the bet that the other TV I sold a few weeks ago would have supported my laptop?

It just seems odd to me that this TV is happy enough with PS3 and SkyDigital but not with my computer. :(

Sorry, Ive been away for a while.

Its a sony but I dont know what model without going to some effort to get to the back of it as I have more or less built it into the wall. Although it tubular it is a flat screen so it cant be that old.

Apart from scart it has Svideo and the three red white yellow connections.
