Hello. I have a movie collection on my computer somewhere. I put it in a random folder in the C Drive on my windows 7 operating system and I can see that the same space is still being used on the hard drive but I cannot find them anywhere on the drive???? Searched for titles and everything:confused: What can I do?

I searched .AVI and .WMV turned up nothing, I don't understand what happened the disk space is still being used I can clearly see that but nothing is turning up:confused:

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
Download Mirror #1
Download Mirror #2

64-bit users go HERE

  • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
  • Vista\Win 7 users:: Right click on SystemLook.exe, click Run As Administrator
  • Copy the content of the following box into the main textfield:
    Code:
    :filefind
    *.avi
    *.wmv
  • Click the Look button to start the scan.
  • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

One of the most recent occurrences of this in the forum was that the files were hidden. Broni's utility will presumably find them. Alternatively make Explorer show hidden files.

Well I tried the program but still found nothing, this is ridiculous..............I can clearly see the gb's still being used but nothing is being found:(

Do you have anything else missing on your computer?

no everything else is intact, i went to find my files which i hid but cannot find them anywhere. i am not sure of the exact location somewhere in the system or system32 area of the pc. i tried the program using avi search and filename search. didnt turn up anything

Let me ask you something...did you maybe by any case download the movies using torrents? If you did, maybe after they all reached 100%,you went in the torrent program and removed them from the list, but also accidentally removed the data too which are those movies. That will cause your movies (data) to be lost and sometimes the HDD used space is showed as USED,but it's actually not used at all.So if you did that, you will need to redownload all your movie files again...

Also try going into the FOLDER OPTIONS and enable/disable the following options:

-Show hidden files and folders (Enable it)
-Hide extensions for known file types (Disable it)
-Hide protected operating system files (Disable it)
-Display the contents of system folders (Enable it)

If that didn't help either then something might be wrong with your operating system and for some reason it does not show the files correctly. So you can try to search them using the Linux Ubuntu 9.04 operating system which you can boot from the CD directly. So just download the Linux Ubuntu 9.04 iso file, burn it to the blank CD-ROM disk and boot from it.Choose ENGLISH as your language and then choose the first option called TRY UBUNTU WITHOUT ANY CHANGE TO YOUR COMPUTER and then wait for Ubuntu to load. After it has been fully loaded, you will see the desktop. Now at the top of your screen, click button called PLACES and then COMPUTER.Now at the top of that window, click VIEW and then click SHOW HIDDEN FILES.Now go into your LOCAL DISK then go into the WINDOWS or SYSTEM32 folder (or what ever the folder you have put your movie files in) and see if your movie files are there. If they are not there at all then you do NOT have those movies anymore at all.Or maybe you DO have them, only you are looking for them at the wrong path location so be sure that you investigate your folders on your hard disk drive very well before giving up...

By the way...no matter WHICH files you put into the WINDOWS folder or SYSTEM folder or SYSTEM32 folder or any other folder inside of the WINDOWS folder,NOTHING BAD HAPPENS to your files. They will NOT be damaged, they will NOT be deleted, they will NOT be hidden or anything like that...In short, nothing happens to them at all.

Cheers bitch :D! xD
