Distributed Computing

Since there is no better way to learn something than by actually doing it, I want to build a mini cluster. I don't have a specific need, just to know and then to use the cluster as extra processing power for my desktop.

Basically I want to link 2 - 3 computers together and use them as extra resources for my main desktop PC that runs Windows. Does anyone know of a good book that I should buy that could help me, or a website with detailed information?

I take it that since my main desktop uses Windows, then I'd have to run the servers on Server2003? Any chance of using Fedora (not withstanding the fact that its cheaper!)?

Thanks

Clustering is not something you would do on a whim. It takes a lot of work just to get a basic cluster. There are only specific applications that you can run that would utilize a cluster. There are also many types of clustering you can do. I am currently working on a beowulf cluster, and have found this howto to be helpful. http://www.cacr.caltech.edu/beowulf/tutorial/building.html
Just curious, what applications are you going to be using to run on the cluster?
