diy cd/dvd recorder

I want to make my own cd duplicating tower. I do not want to buy anything except recorders and a pci to ide card if I want to. What software would you use that would actually work, is there any freeware? I am aware of power requirements.
 
number one, they sell those already made, number two you're gonna have to have some sort of operating system on there unless you're gonna program something serious up in a dos environment
 
Sounds like a great project, there are plenty of free burning programs (haven't used any myself though), and for an OS you could look for a free linux distro (plenty of those around). I'm pretty sure DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter work on linux, so there's a start.
 
#1 get a nice 40gb hdd at least... preferably something in the range of 120gb or higher though
#2 get it built
#3 try getting some dvd burners that are like sata... or have larger buffers. that would be nice.
#4 make sure you have plenty of ram, the more ram the better when burning dvds and cds.
#5 get something like alcohol 120% or nero 7 ultra edition...

then, simply select "burn to multiple recorders"
i dont know of any freeware that will do this for you, but you could probably google it... or just buy the software i suggested!
with this setup you could probably burn about however many dvd burners you buy in a matter of 5-10 minutes
4 dvd burners = 4 dvds burned in less than 10 minutes (at 16x)

Why can't it be free

I looked around for free software forever and it is as if there is none in the universe. Maybe there is a secret to burning to multiple recorders that costs money to figure out. I figured there would be at least one Linux program that would possibly do the trick. I'm becoming less and less of a Windows fan, the more I use it the slower I go. I would take my iBook and Linux over Windows anyday.
