Do all USB cards work separate from the CPU?

OK, once again, I want more performance with my computer, but, I can't spend tons of money, so any little thing that will help will work for me. But, now lets think here, even if it did work separate, would it really help? yes. Things like my USB keyboard may not take up much of the CPU, but it still dose.

You are saying that you want to take a PCI card and that by using a USB equivalent, you will get better PC performance? Definitely not.

Well, I mean if you had a external HDD and then it took CPU usage then you get lower performance, right??? And plus if you had gold connectors instead of the regular stuff, you get a better flow of electricity, right?

OK, so how about this then. I just bought a USB hub to split 1 into 4. If I have it without a power plug, will it make a difference than if I didn't have one?

It won't make the slightest difference on CPU usage, but you might not be able to run some things like hard drives, which require more electricity.

I see. Well, I can plug it up if I wanted to. Hay, ya know how you can make 2 SATA HDD work like it's only one, can you do that with a USB jump drives (or any other memory stick) ? That would be cool.

The difference between having the power plugged in, and not is that certain devices that need power and have no external power source (like a thumb drive...) would not work without the USB power plugged in. An external HDD should be able to work since it has it's own power source.

if the connectors were gold like on some, that would conduct more energy thus making more power than the average cable. Will then I be able to use a flash drive on it???

If you're powering something like a portable external harddrive, the hub would not offer enough power.

No, why don't you just power it anyways? If you don't want to power it, then get a USB extension cable, not a hub. Most motherboards today comes with enough USB connectors anyways. My 30 bucks POS motherboard comes with 4 in the back, and 2 headers.
