Do brands & models matter?

Hi to everyone!

I would appreciate your advice and time; I have 2 single areas of concern:
1. download/upload Speed
2 Coverage distance/strength

I use Win XP (SP3), my home is about 200 msq (600 sqft) and the walls are thin, wooden, paperwalled separators, yet an "n" draft Buffalo Airstation Nifty Giga cannot manage to allow g std laptop operation throught the house. I want to watch Blueray movies, in full HD, by streaming them wirelessly from my laptop to my HT (through a Digital Media Centre).

Here is my doubt: given certain technical specifications as the "n" standard and the dual band (2.4 and 5 GHz) does it matter which model or brand I buy?

I am not interested in options and accessories as preferential bandwith assign, or USB mass storage sharing or Safety improvements or LCD screens, etc... Only speed and coverage. Any advice for my next "n" std, dual band, router purchase?

Yes and no... For the most part they are typically the same. There are standards and what not they are supposed to follow (well, it's been rather difficult since the N standard's been draft so long :P ) Technically they should all be essentially the same. However, some routers have more powerful antennas, more powerful radios, perhaps even amplifiers and such. Then their software/OS may be better optimized and manage the traffic better.

As for which are better, I can't really say. My suggestion would be to check into various reviews and such and see which ones are rated better than others.

Thanks, you're right of course. I should have thought about it. Now, I need to get into all the trouble of searching the web reviews to find the better one... Grrrrr I hate that!

Anyone has, by any chance, had to read all the reviews for an "n" std, Dual Band, router? Can anyone help me out on selcting the best Router for:
1) Download/Upload speed
2) Coverage strength and distance?

I wish I could be of more help which routers are better, but I've honestly not gotten much into anything outside of G routers. Heck my laptop on the way will be my first N device :P (though no plans on getting a new router)
