Do I have to plug in 2x2 pin CPU power with Pen D?

The extra 12v cpu feed was started with the earlier P4 models and Socket 754 AMD boards. While some have managed to run a P4 system with the 24pins of the 20+4pin main connector alone plugged in the best move is to have it plugged just like anything else. Others get away without it by simply not doing "anything" that starts demanding power.
 
Without that plugged for the most part the system will automatically fail to boot. Simply look in the board's user manual to see that warning there.
 
I ran my 3500+ without that plugged in... Try it - but dont connect it while the computer is running! (may seem stupid but ull be suprised....)
 
Every board since the AMD Socket 754 and early P4 models has required the 12v cpu feed. This is due to the new power configurations seen on the boards themselves for the increased power management. People are now wondering why the board temps seem to climb higher then what is seen for the cpu on new builds. The newer lines of processors run with less power demand while the boards are designed to offer more power for newer addon devices. It doesn't hurt to make sure it's plugged in.
 
Hopefully that model will work out for you since that's the smaller model you were pointed to. But you probably won't be running the extras like seen here for the time being. That's the 20+4 main with the separate four wire 12v cpu feed seen on more recent supplies. Someone pointed out a Seasonic 700w model for the price usually seen on models under 500w. Something like that is however a little on the overkill even for that other build.
