Do I need a CPU fan?

i would suggest getting a fan the are really easy to hook up, and the power plug is right next to where the processor is on the mobo
What kind of system do you have? Pre-built or self-built? Many Pre-built ones are designed for near-silent running. That means they may have some special housing surrounding the CPU heatsink that allows the rear fan to suck the heat out. If that is true for yours, you may not have room to install a separate CPU fan.
If you ARE able to install one, get a new heatsink altogether rather than just screwing a fan to your current one. Heatsinks can be found at both newegg.com or tigerdirect.com, and are broken down by Socket types, so you'll have to get one that will fit whatever Socket-type your CPU is, either 478 or 775.

You should be able to just use whatever was cooling the 1.6Ghz P4.
Yes, but it appears that his current cooling consists of just a heatsink. if it was a pre-built system, the stock heatsink may have been paired specifically for that CPU. The faster Unit will generate more heat that the heatsink alone may not be able to draw away as efficiently.
