do i need a fast comp for virus protects...?

im getting a new comp and i wanted a virus protection that works good and i was planning on getting maybe 1gb ram...is that enough ram to make sure the computer still runs fast while at the same time using a protection?
 
virus protection wont slow down your computer because of ram. It uses mostly HDD, and processor, but get the 1gb anyways.
 
oh well in that case the processor will be either an athlon 3500+ or 3700+ and the hard drive will be either 80 or 160gb 7200 rpm SATA Hard Drive

still deciding on both choices:D
