Do I need a new graphics card w/ new 22" LCD?

Hey guys, I'm about to buy a 22" LCD Acer, but I'm curious if it will work on my current system. It's a HP PIII 766 MHZ, onboard graphics, NNIDIA Vanta/Vanta LT (16MB), 768 MB RAM.

Power supply could be an issue also.. think current stock unit in 280 watts.

Also, I'm thinking it is worth it to add a card for about $40 to hit $200 at tigerdirect, so I get $20 off instantly using paypal. It would have to be a PCI card.

Thinking of getting this card...

any advice is appreciated. thanks.

If you ordered that card through Newegg, it would be 51.98 including shipping. Not sure what tiger direct would charge for shipping. Also note that unless you use the DVI cable, you won't be able to use the native resolution of that monitor which is 1680x1050 usually. The VGA cable is unable to display that high of a resolution.

Ordered, came to $211 ... $1.99 shipping, with a $20 credit added to paypal account by Jan 31, 2009. 22" Acer LCD $159, video card 49... so total order will be $191.

I've got an extra 450 watt psu that I forgot I had, so I will just swap out the 200 watt unit w/ the 450..

Huh, that's not true. I used a DVI to VGA adaptor (with a VGA cable) and ran a 24" monitor @ 1920 x 1200.

Got the monitor.. .great looking w/ 1 stuck pixel, which I fixed. Only problem is the video card did not work. I'm thinking that the current PSU in not powerful enough... 185W.

EVGA says 250W min for this card, so I'm off 65W. The computer will boot, but resets itself during WINXP loading. I have a 450W PSU that I attempted to install, but one of the wires in the motherboard connector broke off. So I have to repair that wire first.

Side note: Found out that my board has a 1X AGP slot, is it worth the hassle to return the current card I have to get an AGP card? Kicking myself for not looking before I ordered... I don't do any gaming. thanks.
