Do I need more Ram?

I have 6GB of Corsair TR3X6G atm & was looking to replace it with this

The primary use is gaming/emulation & multimedia, I've been told that I will see performance benefits particularly in the games.
Is that right?

If I do decide to replace will the Ram I've linked to be compatible with my older Gigabyte X58A-UD3R (1366) mobo & is there anything else I need to bear in mind?

Thanks.

Only one stick? You'll lose a little performance for going back to a single channel setup.

I'd probably just get one of the 12 GB kits similar to the one you have and then combine them for 18 GB, but it really depends on your current utilization and memory usage patterns.

What kind of games are you playing at what are the rest of your specs. More RAM can help, but depending on the rest of your specs it might not make a difference if you've got a lower end video card in there already.
