Do I need the exact same model of the graphics card for them to work together.

Hello i was thinking since my graphics is a little outdated that i would get a second one so they could work together. Now the graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce 9400 and i was wondering if i could get the evga GeForce 520 and they would both work or would i have to buy another Geforce 9400?

also the gtx 520 is ddr3 now my ram and old card is ddr2 will they still work?

to sli it has to be the same model, so only a gtx560 and a gtx560 can work together. Also i don't think any cards that low end have sli ports and a software sli isn't as reliable iirc, and there's issues with sli no matter what pretty much.

Best bet would be a single new card like a 7770 or something, as long as your power supply is up for it.
 
Software SLI? Both work with drivers the same way. The reason lowerend cards dont have a SLI bridge is that they dont have alot of bandwidth so the cards work through the slots, dont need a bridge. But I agree a single better card would be better. I dont run SLI or Crossfire anymore, but the issues are way overblown.

Ill do gtx 690 if you can find it cheap i found two gtx 520 for $100 please use amazon or ebay or newwegg to find them a deal thanks in advance

It's much more efficient to just get one powerful card than get two weak cards and make them work together.

If you want nVidia, get a 560Ti

I think he wasn't up to spend that much money on the gpu, because he has probably a bad psu.
I would recommend you to buy a corsair cx500 and go with an hd7770.
 
here are my specs this was custom built by a compouter shop and they did not provide me with every detail because they have closed. but what i could find is


Windows 7 64 bit

Memory(Ram) 4 GB

Processor: AMD Phenom™ll 9650 Quad-Core Processor 2.310 mhz

Graphics Card: Nividia GeForce 9400 GT

i would prefer graphic cards from $1 - $150

Remove the side panel and look at the sticker on the side of the power supply.
 
You're going to want to upgrade to at least a quality 550W PSU if you want a strong graphics card.
