Do I need to run this in RAID?

Is it mandatory to run this HDD in RAID? Looking at the reviews it seems like it but I'm not sure. So the question is, is it possible to just have one of these or do I need 2 +

$150 is bad for the new Western Digital RE3 750 GB? I thought that's a bargain . The 1 TB version is $200
