Do i really need this processor

ok so im looking to get a new build from my sig below.

Im looking at processors and really like the i5 3570, but do i really need a processor that good, is there another processor costs less maybe around £100 which is nearly as good or overclockable to a 3570 ?

I do want to play some of the latest games on fairly high settings.

Post your specs for your computer before people can honestly answer this question.

If you want to play higher end games, however, i5 and i7 are normally the way to go. You can probably overclock an i3 to where the games won't be difficult to play, but long term the i5/i7 would be a better investment.

However, it depends on what you are running. The processor might be good, but you also need your video card to be updated appropriately as well.

currently im running whats in my sig, my psu is a
coolermaster gx550w
so i think im ok with using my old psu
my gpu is a
8800gtx
although this is dated i will be upgrading this also, but not currently as i just want to get the mainboard, cpu and ram sorted first, then look for gpus when im happy.

a decent 1155 dual core is fine for gaming if that is all you intend to do. Your not going to get a decent quad for less than 100 quid im afraid but the dual cores are about 90 quid i think.

They are much, much, much better than what you have now.

I am also on abudget and will be upgrading to a 1155 dual core some time soon as they also beat out my c2q as well.

That is probably the cheapest you can spend on a cpu and still expect to game high.

It may be worth looking around forum or online for benchs and reviews and thoughts on the dual core. I know Aastii had a 1155 dual core and he said it was excellent for gaming.

thing is i dont just game, i also have alot loaded up and running at the same time, from metatrader quotes, lots of chrome tabs and ie tabs, aswell as a trademanager and skype along with a couple of word documents and excel documents.

You want the i5 3570K for overclocking, not the 3570.

If you want a good overclocker for less than £100, then really all I can think of is the AMD FX-4300 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-339-AM&groupid=701&catid=1967&subcat=1825 that's an unlocked quad-core and overclocks nicely.

If you want even cheaper, the FX-4100 is the predecessor to the FX-4300 and also overclocks well, but I'd recommend you for the 4300.

but im looking for a intel processor that can overclock to i5 3570 standards? is that possible?

Cant imagine an i3 bogging you down that much with that going on but i may be wrong.

If you can go for I5, if not due to budget i would go for i3. If you do go for amd platform the upgrade routes are no where near as good as intel. EG, if you get cheap i3 now, and want to upgrade to I5 or I7 your set for a while. The higher end amd chips arent worth it compared to the i5 and i7 chips.

Not really no.

an i5 2500k i guess but even then its not less thanm 100 quid i think its about 150-160.

think i might just splash then and get the i5 3570, then its just a case of browsing for deals, possibly mobo+cpu+memory deals

Make sure you get the 3570K, not the 3570. The 3570K is unlocked and can overclock, the 3570 is locked and is much harder to overclock.

You can't get an Intel processor for less than £100 which will overclock like the 3570K, sorry. The i3s and Pentiums and Celerons don't overclock. You could get something second hand maybe (i5 750/760, Core 2 Quad Q6xxx/Q9xxx) but they're old now and run on outdated sockets. They're still great processors though.

If you are trying to go a bit on the cheaper side, try browsing for used i5 and such, if possible. If you know what you are looking at with processors, it would be a good idea. If not, then yea.

Craigslist, Amazon, places like that might make it to where you can get the i5 for a little bit cheaper used. Just saying.
