I just bought a refurbed Logitech MX610 on eBay, I just got it today but it doesn't seem to work. I know it's risky buying stuff on eBay, but I decided to take the risk. What I want to know is: do laser mice always use visible light? Could it possibly use a nonvisible form of light, and I'm just not hooking it up correctly?

I'm assuming the answer is yes, they use a red laser. I just wanna double check though before I start demanding a refund.

yes. new ones use inferred light. you can however see a very small flash of red if you look very close

EDIT: I just thought of something.... the new wireless mouse uses 2.4GHz radio(?) waves, and so does my wireless router. Could they be interfering with each other?

Just checked, and there is a very small flash of light. As in, the tiniest red dot you can imagine. Is it supposed to be like this?

And is there anything else I could do to determine the functionality of this thing, or what's wrong with it?

Every other mouse I've used is recognized automatically. My windows computer recognized the mouses receiever, but it still wouldn't work. Any ideas?

No. What should I be syncing? BTW, I tried unplugging my wireless adapter and it didn't change anything. I'm gonna see if downloading software or drivers will help.

on the laser mouse there is a small button under it. and on the base unit there is also a button. hit the one on the unit first and then the mouse

BTW, I'm currently using a Logitech Wireless Keyboard EX110 which uses the setpoint software. This is part of a wireless desktop set, but I lost the mouse. Does anyone know if the software will work with the keyboard, and a separate mouse?

No, this mouse just has a usb microreciever and I think it's supposed to autoconnect. There is a button on the mouse which seems turns on a green power light on the top and bottom, but that light goes out after five seconds. I don't think it's supposed to be doing that. However, the tiny red light stays on.

yeah. you still need to connect it. so there is the button on the mouse and the usb receiver. you need to hit the one on the usb first and the mouse second. do it fast. also just fyi. it will not work on a black surface

hey mate,
I'm using a mx610 aswell very good mouse all i did was plug the usb adapter in put batteries in the mouse and i was set didnt have to put drivers on or anything but i still recommend putting drivers on and no you shouldnt be able to see the laser only the led above the power button on the bottom

Okay... it was a faulty mouse. I now have a new one and this one worked straight out of the box. Thanks for the help guys.
