Do most PCs come with a network card installed?

Ok well I'm having problems trying to connect my new PC to a Wi-Fi network. Vista tells me that I haven't installed a network card and that I haven't connected an Ethernet cord.

Have a look in device manager, you probably need to install the network card drivers to get it functioning correctly.

If you tell us the make/model of your PC we could help you locate them for you.

Most mobo's come with a ethernet port integrated, but very few wireless. So I expect you can attach your computer the ethernet (plug looks a little like a phone one), but not with wireless.

You can buy USB / PCI wireless cards quite cheaply if you want wireless.

If your computer is near your router you can by ethernet cables pretty cheaply so that might be a quick fix until you get the wireless adapter.

Hope that helps, Doug.

I guess that just tells you that you DO NOT have a installed network card.
I suggest you buy a USB Network Adapter for less than £20 so that you can connect to your wireless network :D

Do you have a wireless card? If you're not sure, do you have an antenna sticking out the back of your computer?

Thanks for the help. It turned out that my PC had the network adaptor installed. But that, I'm presuming, was for the LAN cable. It didn't come with a Wi-Fi enabling network card which is what I was referring to in my question. I solved the problem by buying a LAN cable cos I figured it'd be cheaper than forking out the money for an internal card and having to rumage around in my box. Then I remembered that you could buy Wi-Fi dongles after doing this lol.
