Do Not Make This Mistake!

This will seem a strange post, no matter where I post it but the reason for it is educational. It is my prayer that it will help some not to make the leap from the frying pan into the fire.

Being a self taught IT and Computer Builder, I have, over the years gained a good deal of experience with Microsoft and Linux Operating systems. When Bill Gates pilfered Mr. Jobs for the MSDOS it was a blow struck for the common man and in that spirit Mr. Gate piloted his ship, the USS Microsoft into untested waters and emerged with the Windows 95 operating system, an adventure that terminated with the very best OS ever to leave the port in Redmond, Washington.

Since that time Bill no longer pilots the Microsoft Vessel and they have shipped two colossal mistakes from the Microsoft docks, Vista and the never finished Windows 7. This article is not about these, I.M.O., mistakes but is instead in the interest of public understanding.

Recently I built a new computer for a friend that was built with the, rapidly growing, Ubuntu operating system in mind. With only the WIFI left to be brought on line this gentleman's son-in-law, an Apple employee, told my friend the he would never be able to learn to operate the Linux system and he needed to purchase a copy of Windows 7 to run on his newly finished Linux compliant computer, absolute insanity for anyone in the computer industry at any level!

There are two major clues as to why this was a wrong and problem fraught manuver, the first of which comes directly from the coffers of Microsoft. Microsoft has published two free pieces of software, down-loadable from their official website. These programs are for no other purpose than to inform you whether or not your hardware will run Vista or 7. The second indicator is found on websites from around the world and is the number of major problems folks from everywhere are having with, in this case, Windows 7.

It is and has been my advise to never line up to purchase the latest and greatest, based on the PR. It is the companies business to sell you their new product, no matter how good or how bad it is. And if you build or have built a computer for a certain operating system, never expect another OS to run on it without a good deal of testing and more cash, an unknown volume of cash. If you do so you have just created a nightmare of your own making and there is not a tech in this world that can fix it for free!

I just finished upgrading all of my main computers to Windows 7. I absolutely love it, and haven't had any problems, even running on somewhat outdated hardware. My little netbook with with an Intel Atom and 2GB DDR2 zips along with 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate.

Well, he is a self taught IT (a self taught Information Technology?) and computer builder, so I'm pretty sure everything he's saying is 100% accurate...

I will now change my computers to run Ubuntu and never purchase a Windows product ever again. Thanks Bill! You've enlightened me and touched my soul.

LOL what was that? It's like saying Microsoft is the devils magic LMAO! XD I love Windows 7 never had any issues with it, Vista had its issues but who cares....

What i believe is updates wouldn't be needed if people made it right in the first place.
They make it so it needs to be fixed so they have a job to do later.

The "never finished Vista and 7"? What the hell are you talking about? Vista was a rushed OS to compete with OS X Leopard and wasn't fully tweaked the best it could be. 7 is much better on that, and runs much better than XP ever did.

Don't even get me started. I run both Windows and Linux Mint. There is at least a new update for something in Linux Mint EVERY DAY! All of us, including programmers, are only human and make mistakes and/or don't see issues with a release of a program. Others such as hackers and other virus/spyware related people, poke through all of these programs trying to find the weak spot, which every program and OS has. Once it is discovered that this weakness exists, then a "patch" or update, is released to secure the weak spot. And it continues on and on.

This doesn't make any sense. Developers would much rather be working on a newer version that is "new and improved" instead of fixing issues in existing software.

You obviously have no idea of the complexity of modern OSes, games and other applications. It is certainly a lofty goal to strive to ship software with absolutely no bugs or issues but it is virtually impossible in reality.

Personally I like to wait until things are tried and true before investing my money in them. Especially if it was a pain in the butt to save up all the money, i'm only gonna get one shot to get the hardware/software in question. Windows 7 hasn't failed me yet(aside from my disappointment about inability to run dos-games through it), and most everything is compatible with it so why use anything else?

I will go back in a minute and reread my OP but as I recall it the remark was limited to win7. And for most of you ʖmen?, cute but no prize for intellect!

Now! I have gone back and reread the applicable, for those of you, intelligent enough to comprehend that word, and the remark was clearly limited to Windows &. And since you seem not to be as informed as you wish to present your cute, idedy biddy self to be, Windows 7 was slated to be the version of windows that corrected all the previous errors in MS's handling of thee Windows project, such as the, now ancient, DOS hole that is now 18 or better years in life that every hacker in the world uses to screww your OS.

When Vista was such an utter flop the Win7 project was hijacked from the development team and was totally scrapped. Using the title only they added the XP engine or kernel to the Vista engine and pushed the revamped Vista out the door disguised as 7. It's just a crying shame that some cuttle pies can't be bothered to read publially available White Papers published to the web by folks like ZDNet and many others. Folks like Mary Jo Foley and others would teach you not to point your finger... it won't be bitten when you don't. And if you would trouble yourself to read the scriptures to follow Jesus you would even loose that nasty disposition.

Nope! No queers here! Why, are you? If so my LORD will cure that for you!

Hey now! Don't make this a religious thread, we have enough of them in the world... Windows Vista was crappy yes, Windows 7 is good (but not perfect... nothing is...) I find that Microsoft is doing good job in improving and correcting their mistakes...Anyways... stop complaining and bad talking them. If you don't like it go with Linux or Mac (lol Mac, hate it...) or crawl in a hole with ham radio... your choice progress or don't.... But don't bad talk those people work...

Still, Win7 was one of the best OS' right when it was released. You know why? Beta testing. A lot of the big bugs were worked out before the final release was out. Look how long it took for only one service pack to come out; it just came out less than two months ago.

And if you would trouble yourself to read the scriptures to follow Jesus you would even loose that nasty disposition.

Bringing religion into it now? Ugh. The Atheist retires.

I bid you good trolling.

Yes, please do. Nobody is forcing you to use Windows.

Totally agree, why can't you leave religion out of it... And I stick to my guns progress, use a different OS, or crawl in hole... But don't go ranting about it on a forum... There are other places for that sorta thing...
