Do PCI-E slots come off?

lovely?

hey guys im helping someone out here install an 8800gt in their computer but he decided not to do it tonight, so he tried to take the card back out once it was in. he didnt notice that the PCI-E latch was still connected though and pulled the slot off. to what extent, i do not know, but the computer refuses to turn on now, i've asked him to check all cords and he is certain they are all in place.

any advice would be great, thanks.

I've never seen a slot pull off before..
Unless he pulled the living crap out of it.

Did he just brake the latch off?
If that's the case I guess it's okay... not good, but still operable...

no i didnt the whole thing came off and i put it back on but now the computer wont start and im going insane

Are you talking about the SOCKET being pulled off the motherboard?!
If so, chances are excellent that socket is now dead, if not the entire motherboard.

no just the bracket the black piece, but the pins r mangled now so i dont think i can do anything anymore...

Looks like your screwed. I don't think you can just fix that by pushing it back in... I think theres a good chance you broke the motherboard too.

you see, it was a prebuilt computer that is now out of its warranty and he has no money, thats why we were trying so hard to fix it.

He's probably gonna need a new mobo if he did that. He musta pulled hard.

and if ti is an OEM, like a dell or HP, unless you can get the exact same board, from them, you are going to need and operating system to.

i didnt pull the pins out, i pulled the black plastic off but the pins are tangled so i cant use the card on the mobo anymore.. everything else works on the mobo, like the router and the modems are still running.. the monitor is still plugged in and it has power but its orange and when i click it it goes blue, and says RGB and then goes back to orange. the power to the computer wont come on no matter what i try. i cant get the computer to shut off. even if i unplug the power supply, the modems and routers still work.

the mother board vga female
Ok, so you're connected to the onboard video?

Are any of the pins on the motherboard touching each other? If you can rearrange the pins so none are touching, you may be able to POST with the integrated video.

they are pretty twisted, very sharp..but there are some i cant move from touching each other. im just gonna buy a new case and mobo, and processor and ram.. i needed an upgrade anyway.

what do you think of

centurion 5 case
GIGABYTE GA-P31-S3G (HOPING this fits the 8800gt unlike my last mobo)
2 gb ddr2 ram?
and uh.. recommend me a nice but cheap intel processor please? something abi faster then my 2.2 x2 athlon. Its gotta be dual core. maybe something 2.8? and can this mobo overclock good?
