do u need 2 hard drives?

my buddy was saying its better to have 2 because u just want to put ur operating system on one and all ur games on other.anyone ever hear of this ?or would i be fine just buying like 1 300gb hard drive?thanks
 
You don't NEED 2 drives, but it also doesn't hurt.

What I do is use a 30GB partition for my Windows install, then use the rest of the drive for storage, documents, etc... The reason is that if I get into bad trouble I can reinstall Windows at any time without losing my personal data and saved files.

I also have another physical drive which I do backups to; that way if either one of my drives dies, I have backup.
 
That would work, but remember that if your OS crashes, you will still need to re-install your games.

What I would do is use one HD for the OS and programs/games, then the other drive for your data and/or backups.

I have two drives, but I prefer to have two. Regardless, my Windows OS is installed on a separate partition for when the inevitable re-installs occur; all of my documents and software are on different partitions. Some software I need to reinstall after an OS-install, others are fine. However, all the settings and whatnot are there so I can just copy over afterwards.

Here are my partitions (and yes, I have OCD :)):

Disk 1: XP OS (15 GB), XP Software (10 GB), Personal Partition (501 GB)
Disk 2: Swap (2 GB), Ubuntu /Root (9 GB) Ubuntu /Home (12 GB), Kubuntu /Root (9 GB), Kubuntu /Home (12 GB), Backup of Personal Partition (all the rest)

For my OS's...OS-isi...OSs's's's...whatever, I could have gotten away with 4, but chose to go with 9, but as I mentioned...it's OCD.
 
thanks for replies.well i was just tring to keep low on price since im tring to get the new intel 45nm processor and sli it guna be exspensive as is lol.could i just buy one hard drive for at first then maybe later get extra hard drive?

That would be fine, then you can transfer over your documents and such to the new drive.
