Do you ever have problems with a dual monitor...

no,like it will always work, there might be some resolution problems which I resolve by setting a custom resolution.

Im running Dual Samsung Syncmasters 24".
If ya do it, I suggest both to be same model and manufacture. Running different brands and sizes will can and likely be a problem.

No, Not yet and works well.

Misnomer?

The wording "Dual Monitor" could be construed as a misnomer.

Do you mean "Dual Monitors"?

Do a Google search. You'll see dual monitor under shopping results, Wikipedia (under Multi-Monitors) and PC World has an article about (at http://www.pcworld.com/article/150537/dual_monitors_the_only_way_to_go.html)

Getting down to business, a mundane task would be to drag an icon from one monitor to another. My concerns with a dual monitor are these:

1) Is a special video card needed for the dual monitor? If so, where does one pick it up?
2) Has it happened where one display screen has gotten out of sync with the other?
3) What other considerations would be involved with a dual monitor?

They are kind of expensive (about $500 from a quick review). I suppose one kind of advantage with this type of monitor is if one display screen goes out, you still have the other to fall back on.

So gentlemen, I hope I've been responsive.

1) Is a special video card needed for the dual monitor? If so, where does one pick it up?

Most GPUs with a dual video output port will support a dual monitor config.
And all the modern GPUs will support a Dual Monitor Config.
Even a $20 GPU will support dual monitor - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500205

2) Has it happened where one display screen has gotten out of sync with the other?
I did not get the question properly.
But if you mean that you are running both the displays in mirror mode, that is what you are doing is reflected on both the screens then there might be some lag due to the specification difference of the monitors but it won't be noticeable.
But no there won't be a case like one screen is lagging in reflecting any changes which you have done.

3) What other considerations would be involved with a dual monitor?
It will be best if both the monitors are same, but they do not compulsarily need to be same.
And if you will be doing heavy GPU oriented work on both the displays I suggest getting a nice GPU with some good cooling. :D(Again assuming you are using them in mirror mode)
But for normal usage any mainstream GPU will suffice.
Also space and the distance from the monitors should be taken into consideration.
And also do you need a dual monitor config.

See reply to quote 1.

And if you can tell us what you will be using it for and what is your current config we can help you out with choosing what will be best for you. ;)

Good to see you making some genuine posts. :D :good:

Thanks for your responses to date

"Good to see you making some genuine posts."

Some people don't readily understand me, Mihir, at least not right off the bat.

I think my post about speeding up a cell phone is my biggest contribution to date which I'm assuming is what you mean by genuine. As I get closer to getting my system next year, I'll be doing more posting.

Have a good one.

Not getting off-topic,
did my reply solve most of your doubts or do you have some more?
And can you also be clear whether you meant duplicate monitor config or extended monitor config.

If I'm not mistaken...he is talking about a dual monitor. As in a single monitor split into 2 sections that can be used like 2 separate monitors...am I right?

He definitely means using two monitors, but I am asking which mode would he be using them in.
Like the extended display mode, which will give more screen space or the duplicate display mode which will display the same image in both the monitors.

The extended display mode

With the extended display mode, if one monitor goes out I'm assuming that the image can be adjusted on the still good monitor to get the entire picture at the reduced size.

Most of my concerns have been resolved. However I'm the type of person that will always have concerns, particularly with new technology (yeah I know, dual monitors have been around for over five years now so it's not exactly new technology anymore, still it's not common yet).

BTW to let you know I can access the internet with my cell phone which is a pain in the ass to type with. I also have access through my local library for up to two hours a day, six days a week during the summertime so if I'm slow in responding, I hope you'll understand.
