LoL I don't know what you people do with your computer when XP runs so slow lol.XP runs perfectly on my computer and like I already said many times,I haven't reinstalled it since 2004.
So if XP works slow to you then you are doing something wrong.
Let me explain how you can have faster XP system:
-Format entire HDD with KILL DISK.
-Install XP using NTFS slow format option of course. When you install XP,install ONLY SP1,SP2 and SP3 updates.Make sure you install them one by one in the RIGHT ORDER.For example...if your XP installation already has SP1 built in then install SP2 and SP3.Do not install ONLY SP3.Make sure you do all in the right order!
-Install drivers but do NOT connect to the internet at all BEFORE you disable Windows automatic updates COMPLETELY.And be sure that in the future you do NOT install A SINGLE update!
NOTE: No matter what you do,if you are required to restart the computer then DO IT.Do NOT restart it later. If it says it needs to be restarted then do it.Believe me there is a reason why it NEEDS to be restarted.
Now let's talk about few "neccessary" updates and other things:
-First of all in order to install Internet Explorer 8 or newer, you do NOT need to install any updates at all.Internet Explorer 8 will install just fine.If for some reason you are required to install update first then you have obviously done some updating BEFORE and now your OS is messed up and in most cases you WILL be required to install update(s) in the future for NO REASON.Of course your OS can also be in a bad condition.
-.NET framework(s)...People!Why the hell do you install SO MANY .NET frameworks and all their updates???No offence of course, but most of the people do not even know what .NET framework is for. Here is an explanation:
The .NET Framework (pronounced dot net) is a software framework that runs primarily on Microsoft Windows. It includes a large library and supports several programming languages which allows language interoperability (each language can use code written in other languages). Programs written for the .NET Framework execute in a software environment (as contrasted to hardware environment), known as the Common Language Runtime (CLR), an application virtual machine that provides important services such as security, memory management, and exception handling. The class library and the CLR together constitute the .NET Framework.
The .NET Framework's Base Class Library provides user interface, data access, database connectivity, cryptography, web application development, numeric algorithms, and network communications. Programmers produce software by combining their own source code with the .NET Framework and other libraries. The .NET Framework is intended to be used by most new applications created for the Windows platform. Microsoft also produces a popular integrated development environment largely for .NET software called Visual Studio.
So as you can see,it is mostly used to make programs IF YOU ARE A PROGRAMMER and most people who install ALL .NET frameworks and ALL their updates are NOT computer programmers. So why the hell do you install them ALL???Don't do that.
If you are not a programmer: Do NOT install a SINGLE .NET framework and a SINGLE their update. You should install ONLY the .NET framework version which you REALLY NEED in order to make some of the programs you use to work. For example a program called MZ CPU ACCELERATOR was programmed in .NET framework 2.0 WITHOUT ANY SERVICE PACKS.So in order to make that program/software to work on your computer,ALL you need is .NET framework verison 2.0 AND THAT'S IT.No more!If the software you use needs ONLY .NET framework version 2.0 for example then install ONLY .NET framework version 2.0 without any service packs for it (unless the software requires that too)!Once you do that, the software will work perfectly. So there is NO POINT,I REPEAT NO POINT to install ALL .NET framework versions and ALL their updates if you do NOT use programs that require them!
If you ARE a programmer: If you are developing software in let's say .NET framework version 1.0,but do not use ANY programs that even need .NET framework or at least not the newer version of .NET 1.0 (since you are developing in 1.0 after all) then AGAIN THERE IS NO POINT in installing ALL the .NET framework and all their updates. All you need in this case is only .NET 1.0.What is the point to install ALL of them???
Well there is NO point and you will just fill and screw up your system for NO REASON.So don't do that.
-Windows installers.First of all many people do not even know what they are used for. Here is an explanation:
Windows Installer (previously known as Microsoft Installer) is a software component used for the installation, maintenance and removal of the software on modern Microsoft Windows systems. The installation information and often the files themselves are packaged in installation packages loosely relational databases structured as COM Structured Storages and commonly known as "MSI files",from their default file extension.
Many programs require Windows installer in order to be able to install themselves.XP SP2 and SP3 include a good version of Windows installer and 99.99% of programs will install perfectly with that Windows installer. So what is THE POINT in installing ALL the Windows installers if you do NOT NEED THEM???
For example...a program you want to install needs Windows installer 3.1 in order to be able to install and you ALREDY DO HAVE Windows installer 3.1 on your system. But for some STUPID reason you decided to install ALL OTHER NEWER Windows installers...WHY??? Don't do that unless the program(s) you need to install REALLY require them.
-Installing ALL Windows updates.First of all many people do not even know what they are used and designed for.All they "KNOW" is that it is the best to install them ALL AS SOON AS THEY ARE RELEASED.Well it's not. It's stupid!
Here is an explanation what Windows updates really are:
Windows Update is a service provided by Microsoft that provides updates for the Microsoft Windows operating system and its installed components, including Internet Explorer. An optional feature disables access to Windows Update, enabling instead access to Microsoft Update, an expanded version of the service which provides updates not just for the operating system and Internet Explorer, but also for other Microsoft software running under Windows, such as Microsoft Office, Windows Live applications, and Microsoft Expression Studio. Updates are normally provided over an Internet connection, although there is provision for updates to be installed on computers without an Internet connection.
There are different kinds of updates. Security updates or critical updates protect against vulnerabilities to malware and security exploits. Other updates correct errors that aren't related to security, or enhance functionality.
Security updates are routinely provided on the second Tuesday of each month, Patch Tuesday, but can be provided whenever a new update is urgently required to prevent a newly discovered or prevalent exploit targeting Windows users. Windows Update can be configured to install critical updates automatically so long as the computer is connected to the Internet, without the user needing to install them manually, or even be aware that an update is required.
You see...as soon as people here the word CRITICAL or SECURITY,the first thing they do is that they RUSH TO INSTALL THEM IMMEDIATELY AND ARE NOT EVEN AWARE OF WHAT THEY ARE ACTUALLY DOING OR INSTALLING.
Critical: If you have critical errors in Windows because of some programs you use on them then you will install ONLY a critical update to fix THAT PROBLEM YOU HAVE,BUT OF COURSE NOT INSTALL OTHER 1000 UPDATES TOO!If you do not have any problems or errors then do NOT install updates to fix the problems you do not have. There is NO POINT in installing critical fixes for something you do NOT need to fix.
Security: If you are afraid of viruses and other malicious code that can snip into your system in order to steal your personal information or destroy your operating system then buy and install a GOOD antivirus software that is DESIGNED JUST FOR THAT.Security updates are crap and they always were. They do not protect at all.Try to go on a bad porn WEB sites with ALL those security updates installed which you like so much and after a very short period of time your system will be FULL of viruses and infected so damn much that it will be a HUGE MIRACLE if you will even be able to move your mouse.
If you want a security and good protection, buy, install and use a GOOD SOFTWARE that is designed just for that and do NOT use security updates.Don't do that.
CONCLUSION:
All of the Windows operating systems are great. They are all great and they all work perfectly even on very old and weak/slow computers/laptops.
The WAY HOW they will work and HOW FAST they will work completely depends on a person who uses them and ONLY on a person!
If a person has a lot of good knowledge and understanding of all these things and performs all things PROPERLY in the RIGHT ORDER then every OS will work perfectly on any computer/laptop.
If a person does not have a lot of good knowledge and understanding of all these things and performs all things IMPROPERLY in the WRONG ORDER then every OS will work slow and wrong on any computer/laptop.
THE PERSON'S KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF ALL THESE THINGS IS THE ONLY THING THAT IS NECCESSARY TO MAKE ANY OS WORK PROPERLY AND FAST WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS ON ANY COMPUTER/LAPTOP...
Cheers!
