Do you need additional antivirus on top of Windows Defender?

On my little Asus X205TA, I have very limited space. I would normally install AVG without questioning. But AVG is relatively "big" on a machine with only 2gb ram and 32gb emmc (only 20gb available after 8 was reserve for recovery).

So, if Windows Defender is good enough, I want to spare the space for other more critical operations.

Since this is a very small machine I carry for convenience, I do do much of the heavy duty workload here. Read some newspaper, browse some forum, check my stock portfolio, and that's about it.

Anyone has tried Windows Defender without additional protection?

If you install another AV, Windows Defender will be disabled. It's up to you. AVG sucks anyway. If you want to run something else, buy a copy of MalwareBytes Premium.

Defender is all I use, it does the job for me. Whether it's enough for you depends on you. Most effective AV is you and your surfing habits.

Windows defender is junk and doesn't work. It also doesn't get disbled when you install an Antivirus program. I always change windows defender service to disabled.

i will second that one.avast is one of the better free avs and is pretty light on resources.i would go with that.

I respectfully disagree that Defender is junk but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. As I said, YOU and YOUR surfing habits have far more impact on what viruses/malware/etc... you pickup than whichever AV software you use.

well, hold on to that thought, but the reviews dont lie.even microsoft cant,in all conscience recommend defender.

Defender used to be junk, but now it is considered pretty solid. I always install Avast either way.

Since it was not an overwhelming yes, I installed Avast just to have a peace of mind
Thanks all for the advice

On my netbook I tried Bitdefender Free, but it didn't play well so I installed immunet. If Avast is too cumbersome check that out.

I only use windows firewall , I don't use an antivirus because I'm not going to websites that are not really known or opening emails i get that I don't know where they came from or advertising. A lot viruses come from emails that infect your computer once opened , Do not open emails you do not know who or why they are sending you one. If your going to watch porn do it on popular porn sites don't go to some unknown porn site these have a lot of malware and viruses ,

Windows Firewall is completely irrelevant. While I agree that common sense plays a big role, there's no harm in running at least the included Windows Defender.
