Hey, i need your opinions!
im getting a new pc, and am wondring is this good enough

Pentium 4 519 Processor
3.0GHz Clock-Speed
533MHz Front Side BUS
1 mb Cache
Windows XP Home Edition
1024 mb Memory
160 Gb Hard Disk Capacity
Multi-Format Dual Layer DVD Re-Writer
256Mb GE Force 6200 Graphics
Onboard Sound Card

No of USB connections 6
No of PCI Slots 2
Optical Drive 1 Multi-Format Dual Layer DVD Re-Writer Drive

i will be using it for internet and multimedia, and am trying to get into new pc games aswell.i also intend to use it for photo editing, as my laptop i have now just doesnt cut it, so i want to switch to desktop.

What is your budget?

That will not play newer pc games very well at all

I highly reccomend building it urself, with the help of people here u can get a much better computer.

well, i would realy love to build it myself, but i heard that theres a chance it wont work when im finised(maybe just rumours??). I would spend about €850 so thats about $1000 or so. Im not like going to devote my time to graphic intensive games, but would like the option. Is it possible to upgrade to a more advanced graphics card at a later date???If i could play the sims i would be happy for a while!

Theres always a chance of it not working, but unless you screw up really badly you can usualy get it working.

Definetly

That would run the sims but not very good.

so without soudning stupid, if i purchased the computer that i first mentioned, i could upgrade the graphics card and memory in due course, and i would be able to run some decent games????? AND also, if i build my own computer, is it possible to install a mac operating systen instead of windows??
thanks alot!

Depends on whether that motherboard has a free PCIex16 slot or not

AND also, if i build my own computer, is it possible to install a mac operating systen instead of windows??
Thankfully, no

Praetor, have you actually spent some time using the Mac OS X?

Don't be so quick to throw aside the new OS.. Apple finally got something right, you should check it out!

Im aware of MacOS X and yes it is actually quite something ... but it's something that should stay on a mac. Were it possible to emulate the Mac environment on a PC in a live situtation, the performance would be dismal (hence my comment, which, now seeing, wasnt so evident)

(I want to preface this by saying that this post is going a tiny bit off topic...)

You response was interesting... What facts have led you to the conclusion that the performance of a PC compatible machine running the MAC OS X would be dismal?

I dont really what to get into semantics but what makes a "PC" a PC? Some say its just a computer that runs Windows, Unix or Linux.. well, hardware wise, why would the new MAC OS X NOT be able to handle a PC (now that the OS is Unix based...)?

Also, the entire idea of a PC-compatible machine was that it had an IBM-compatible microprocessor... which makes me think that Apple's new OS is exactly what they needed to join forces with Intel...

What am I missing?

Well, its posible... just not leagaly ;)

I was going to mention that at the bottom of my post :o ..I just forgot...

Yes, take away the fact that currently it is not legal, just based strickly on hardware/software compatibility... (as most of you know, I am VERY much against any kind of software piracy/illegal use of software..)

This is great!! A MODERATOR has taken a thread completely off discussion, by starting a discussion with an ADMIN!!!! Doesn't happen that often :P

It revolves around a question asked by the thread creator:

Yeah i know. I was just kidding :P I personally think that Macs and PCs are both great and if they attempt to combine them in any way, both will lose something
