I'm considering making a bit of money (hopefully) by building home/family systems cheap (i.e. buying components of ebay etc.) at home, then selling them on for something like high street price, would it be feasible? What sort of a profit margin could I make ( bearing in mind It's tricky for me to buy in bulk). I was thinking a sempron or pentium dual core as the main CPUs, maybe purchasing mobos with integrated graphics? :good:

I tried this when I was younger and it didn't work out, lots of kids think this is a great way to make money, although it really isn't. First off, eBay is generally overpriced for parts, you can find them cheaper from Newegg or TigerDirect. The biggest issue is actually selling them, no one would want to buy a computer from a random person online or someone they just met, they would go to a store or shop online from a reputable company.

You could try selling it on eBay or Craigslist, but chances are you wouldn't make much money at all. Then you need to worry about what happens if the computer breaks, are you going to warranty that? Too much to worry about for not much of a profit in my opinion.

there's money in it, hey i do it
finding deals for small purchases is tough sometimes, but not impossible
finding your clients is the tough part - competing with companies with muli-million dollar marketing budgets is tough! you need to be fresh with your business approach, and not mark up too much or the big box stores will beat your prices

check my website www.rawcomputers.ca to see some of the things i'm trying

Hey, 30,000th post!

Just re-read your op, offering semprons - not what i'd recommend, my base is an athlon ii x2 and base intel for a home machine is an e-series core2 dual

offering low end (old) stuff in my experience doesn't attract customers, except for the ones who are easily ripped off (which i am strongly against, i'd rather educate them even if they end up going someplace else, maybe why i'm not a millionaire?)

there's always a current line that's affordible, and if you register your business you can get reseller status with lots of great distributers, and get better pricing

Here's the thing when it comes to budget computers, it's nearly impossible to beat the big names in price when you factor in buying a Windows OS. Since that's what most people want, low end cheaper computers, the profit margin on this is very low. However if you happen to know anyone needing a higher end computer, for work or for gaming, it's quite easy to beat the big names and still make a tidy profit.

I know. It's irritating. I have enough amybe to build a low-end system with a sempron or something like that, but it wouldn't sell, I don't have enough to purchase all the parts for a big high-end PC, but that would go down quite well:confused:
Damn. Never mind :good: cheers guys :)
