hi, my brother built me a pc a few days ago and i got it today.

i'm thinking something might be faulty what do u reckon heres why

1. we bought a 300gb seagate HD. but when i right click on my computer it says i only got 127 gb.
Where did the other 163 go?

2. The motherboard has onboard sound. but when i plug in my speakers no sound comes out. i got the volume up and everything. and i cant even play a cd cos media player says i have a problem

whaat can i do to sort this out?

cheers

dan

to solve the 127gb problem you will need servicepack2 for xp, you can get it for free at microsofts web site.you could probably do it through windows update though.. easier.

to solve the sound issue do a google search on ac97 sound driver and download them. i dunno why sound doesnt work when i do a reinstall of windows but i found downloading ac97 has worked on each occasion.

when i download that ac97 and i run the install it says "sorry, the install wizard cannot find the supported hardware in your system. you should check your hardware and try again"

hmm.. i guess i just got lucky. ive downloaded it on two different pc's and it worked correctly.
but ya try try a search with your mobo and see what it brings up.

Partition Magic works well to release the difference in hard drive space.

As far as your sound issue. It sounds like a driver was not loaded or maybe a updated driver is needed. Have you went to your motherboards website and downloaded a current version of the audio driver? If not try that.

ahh its ok guys. i downloaded like 20 different patches and 1 eventually loaded up so my sound issues are resolved.

but do u have to pay for partition magic?
