Does anyone know what this is for?

I found this in my basement among my other pc accessories.

It's a female Molex on one side (two prongs) and it looks like something that would plug into something on the motherboard at the other end. There's no writing anywhere. Just wondering what I could possibly use this for. I think it came with my Asus motherboard, but I can't remember for sure

It doesn't get attached to the motherboard, most likely an accessory of some kind but not sure exactly what.

I find pics are easier to post when using photobucket.

Need a better image of the non-molex end.

Only having red means the adapted end is just a 5v device.

My guess is it's an adapter that came with a case fan to allow you to connect it to either a fan controller or the fan connector on the motherboard. We need a clearer picture of the other end though to tell for sure.

I hope this shows up well enough. I'm not exactly good at taking photographs.

[and using Photobucket now :D ]

Either a fan as Geoff suggested or possibly a power feed for a 2.5" to 3.5" IDE HDD adapter.

Im pretty sure what geoff said was right. You plug a fan into the smaller black end, and gets adapted to molex to plug into your PSU. Or im being really dumb

It's a sata to ide adaptator :)
It is to power old hdds.

You'd be more accurate to indicate something like a molex to 2.5" IDE power adapter. Those drives typically are just driven by a 5v input and a ground pin which would match what's displayed.

SATA to IDE doesn't really cut it especially when SATA has it's own power specification outside of molex ;)

I thought we pretty much narrowed this down already.. :o

I wouldn't imagine it adapts to a case fan since you only have the 5v lead. 5v is often too low for most 12v case fans and they'd cease to spin.

This is what most case fan molex adapters look like.
