well... im playing IL2:FB +expansions for quite a wile already, but it starts on getting old. does anyone of you know a good Combat Flight Sim, wich is quite rescent? i dont mind weither its WW2 or sci-fi, i like all of them, it just shouldnt be too much of an arcade game, so its nice playable with a joystick

X2 and X3 are space flight sims of a sort. You can either play the missions and progress the storyline, or you can just go about trading, establishing bases, building up a fleet and exploring/taking over the galaxy. :) It's a really complex and immersive game, definitely recommend it.

Two very good games X2, X3... Another similar space exploration game would be Freelancer. As for down to earth flight sims (pun intended) and similar, I've not heard of anything recent. It's not my favourite genre so that might be why :). I do frequent game sites like Gamespot daily however.

If you have a PS2, the Ace Combat series is excellent (I don't remember if it's available on the XBox or not...) Also if you can get your hands on a copy, Freespace 2 is probably the best combat flight sim to date. The storyline is incredible and intense, I've played though the entire campaign (about 50 - 60 hours at most) at least half a dozen times, probably more. The only problem is that it's old, from 1999. The graphics are still pretty darn good, even for today's standards...

I saw that at Best Buy the other day, it looked interesting, but I haven't seen any reviews yet. I'll have to check that one out. I usually check ign.com and gamespot, among others...

I play a lot of ww2 flight sim also, right now i play microsoft combat flight simulator 2002, IL2 sturmovic and pacific fighters.:D

I just tried Falcon 4.0 Allied Force again.. its really realistic..
I can get a F-16 off the ground from a complete cold start :)
the only thing i havnt found yet is how to unlock the nosewheel, so i can steer easely on the ground... :o

The Beta for
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2007 has just been released although you are pretty restricted to what you can do its still worth a look.
besides it wont be long before the full version is out!

well... FS X isnt going to be a Combat Flight Sim tough.. :(

(altough.. a 747-400 equipped with a load of sidewinders would be cool.. or a dogfight with 2 A-380's.. XD )

I can't remember the key to unlock the nosewheel. I think it is / or p. The manual and key description for it sucks, much like IL2. IL2 has the most useless key map card ever. 95% User defined.

I hate to say it but Lock On: Modern Air Combat is decent. It's not quite as complex as F4:AF but with the 1.1 addon and the never (IMHO, it's slotted for release now but it was also supposed to be out at least a year ago) to be released 1.2 addon (adds a flyable KA-50) the flight dynamics are good, all the systems are there and are somewhat realistic in their modelling.

I might have to try that DarkStar One. It looks kind of cheesy but that never stopped me with the Star Wars X-Wing/TIE Fighter series of games.

I like the damage model's of the IL2: FB series (wich includes PF ).. i mean,.. you can still land (literairy) half a plane :)

landing in realistic mode is the hardest, i can take off anytime even in the aircraft carrier, the best plane to me is a corsair.

Done it, bounced...a lot but it was survivable. I've done some dicey landings though, bounced a good 50 feet a couple times in me109s when I came in too fast then broke the gear and bent the prop when I hit the ground again.
