Does crossfire limit me to one monitor?

i want to upgrade my board and finally climb out of the agp hole. i've always liked ati over nvidia. here's the problem:

i want to crossfire or sli down the road. right now i'd be getting 1 card. i'd like to lean toward crossfire, but the connectors on the crossfire master card doesn't look like i could run both my monitors at once, as it has that crossfire plug and only 1 dvi.

nvidia, meanwhile, would allow me to run dual mons until i could afford a second card. is that right? i know the x1950 pro has an internal bridge, and i could run duals, but i'd go xtx which i don't think has that option.

if i can't use dual mons on a single crossfire master card, i'll probably switch to nvidia. the 7900 xtx cought my eye yesterday. $300 each. good price?

i'd also need a board. i'd like it to support 2 16x cards, not make it 8x + 8x. is that something i'd have to look for if i were to go with crossfire too? or is it just an sli thing?

any board recommendations? i like asus.

thanks all.

I dont know if you can run 2 monitor's with SLI enabled tough tbh... i've never tried it yet.

also seeing that you have an FX-60 (drool.. :P ^_^ ), i can only reccomend the motherboard I have atm, since it works great :) ( Asus A8N32 SLI ) but ofcourse, thats only if you're going for SLI ofc :o

i would definately want to run dual monitors. maybe there's a way to run duals with sli turned off, and only enable it when i want to play a game (which is one screen anyway).

anyone done this, is it possible? i know nothing about sli, as i've never had it.

then how do people run 4 monitors with SLI

with SLI disabled bopth cards run seperate.. ;) with SLI they bundle their power for single monitor 3d apps

i can live with that. that's how i usually set it up anyway.

oh, thanks for the board recommendation. i think i'll buy the mobo you have. i like the true 16x sli as opposed to the 8x times 2.
