Does "deleting" a virus get rid of it?

I recently got hacked and lost my World of Warcraft account because of this, thankfully I don't do online banking or shopping.

My question here is: does deleting a virus/mal/spy/adware get rid of it? Should I be deleting them or putting them in quarantine?

I'm using Avast and Avira and Spyware Doctor, Malwarebytes and AdAware.

It really depends on the virus. Assuming you had something running and it caught it as soon as you got it, I wouldn't worry about it. If you didn't find out until later, run a few scans in safe mode. For the most part, after the computer shows up as clean, you SHOULD be ok. However, I've seen some pretty persistent viruses...
