i have a Older IBM atptiva around 1996-1999 computer. and i am gonna be hooking up a ethent to it, when i am looking in the back of the book it doesnt say "ethernet" on the system board components, it has all these connector names etc.

is there another name for ethernt?? some kind of connector name or somthing

thanks

10/100 might be displayed... but it might be to old to have it. You can get a card, which fits the slots your mobo has... But I would think it doesn't have it onboard.

Found this...

from that post it does not appear to have an onboard card so you can simply buy a card that goes into the pci card slot on the laptop or you can buy a wireless usb one and get a wireless router which i would assume you would want wireless since its a laptop

i have three ethernet looking like things that are on the bak of my comp...

one is "phone" and the other is "line" (right next to it)

and then there is another that shows (kind of by it) it says ACT, 100a, 10a

sorry bassman i miss read that one you can buy a pci card for a pc if you have a slot free for like $60 some are less its not a bad idea to just get a newer one becuase if there is an older one its goign to be slower then a newer one so if you wand speed then just invest in the new one

yea, i used my ethent that came with my xbox 360, and it fits perfectly and snaps into place, in the one that next to ACT, 100a, and 10a

and the ethent that came with my 360 didnt fit in the phone ones or anything, but fits perfectly and snaps in place in the ACT one. Is this my ethernet port? :) :) :)

yea thats the ethernet its larger then a phone input and has more pins so plug it in there and you shoudl be good to go!
