I am buying a new pc mainly for gaming and just wondering if I really need a widescren lcd monitor?
Does a widescreen monitor make any difference for games or should i save myself around €500 by keeping my current 19inch lcd which seems to be in fine condition? I plan to have a 768MB nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX graphics card if that makes any difference to the subject.

if you are watching a lot of new dvds or running auto racing games or 1st person shooters then the widescreen gives the surround look. It noticed more with the widescreen format of many movies and the feel of driving in racing games.

Do you "need" a widescreen display? NO! It goes by personal preference over any necessity there. Larger monitors are usually chosen for running things at higher screen resolutions. If your current 19" has a low response time like down under the 5-8ms and you are satisified with it why throw money away for something you may not want?

Go to a store and look at different types of lcd screen even tvs with the same thing displayed to get an idea of what you feel best with before spending anything.
