does my comp suck that bad??

about a year ago my family got a new comp...a dell...at the time i said this is going to be awesome...however i discovered quickly that it really isn't good at all...it has been gettin slower and slower and has so many errors and it barely keeps up with me runnin a program and listening to winamp at the same time. it is a pentium 4, 30Gb hard drive, and 512Mb of ram...my dad wont let me open it up and found out exactly whats in there but im just wondering if there is anythin i can do or if it is just a piece of $#^% lol (srry)
 
It may be time to reformat, since alot of junk and spyware can build up and cause it to run incredibly slower. If you are unable to reformat, download and run some Anti-Virus / spyware cleaners such as AVG Free and Ad-Aware.

Also run Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter. You also may want to download a free registry cleaner, such as Tune-Up Utilities 2006.
 
I had a similar issue with my grandparents Dell, if you havent tried these steps yet try them and see where you get. Try these before you reformatt.

1. I know its obvisious, but make sure you defrag

2. Download Cleanup and follow the directions (do it in safe mode) CleanUp!

3. Get Adaware and run it Ad-Aware SE Personal - Software - Lavasoft

4. Im not sure if you have virus protection. but if not or even if you do try this out it works AWESOME, its called NOD32 Antivirus Software - Eliminate Spyware and Adware with NOD32 Antivirus from ESET (get the trail offer to see if you like it)

5. IF all else fails reformatt, but do that last, because it can be a PIA.

Oh make sure you arent running any P2P programs, because those can and will slow you down big time.
