Does the MSI 3GB LXE 580 smash 2GB 560ti SLI?

The two 560tis are faster than a single 580.

BUT

I would go with the 580. Even with one 580, you'll be maxing every game. And after a while, you decide you need more, you can get another 580 and have a beast setup.

thats what everyone always says to do (and i have no problem with that), lol. my only concern is the card not being around for sale when its time for me to grab another one. considering im upgrading the rest of my system as well..im basically doing a new build at this point so, its not just the GPU i will be getting. so its the $540 vs the $599 is what i have to figure out, i guess if im already spending over $500 whats it matter?

I will let you know tomorrow. I bought a GTX 580 Lightning Xtreme 3 GB card a few days ago and it arrives tomorrow. I play at 1080p.

the 580 will let you go beyond 1080p...so in the long run the 580 is better due to the increased memory vs the 2gb cards.

ahh ok awesome man, what games are you playing? got skyrim?

I mainly play BF3 and I just got Skyrim last night. I run BF3 at 1080p full ULTRA setiings and 4x MSAA and I get around 75-80 fps average. I use V sync though so it always sits at 60 on the dot. I have seen up to 2000 mb vram used but it normally sits right at 1400 or so. So def get a 3gb.

I have never seen temps go above 61 degrees playing games for hours. It is usually about 59 degrees at load. This is using the stock fan profile. I cant even hear the fans at all!

Playing Skyrim at full settings with texture mods, I get 65 to 70 fps all the time. I have seen it drop to 35 but I think that was because of loading lag. I have seen this game use up to 1100 mb vram too. But it normally sits right at 700-800mb.

This card also gives me better visuals than my 6950's did. I am not sure why but everything looks far crisper and there is a lot more debris in the air while playing BF3. It is a noticeable difference.

I am so happy I got this card. It came in the best packaging I have seen to date and its build quality is amazing! I have nothing negative to say whatsoever!

thats some great feedback, what program do you use to monitor vram usage?

I use MSI afterburner. You have to turn on the in game overlay and select which options you want to monitor. I use GPU temp, FPS and memory usage.

I said earlier I have seen Skyrim use up to 1100mb vram, I just got done playing and it was up to 1450mb usage for awhile! BF3 isnt the only vram hog!

lol i have afterburner and like a total derphead didnt even realized it tracked that info. thanks!

i did some testing with skyrim of my own.

with a E8400 (stock) and GTS 250 SLI i was getting like 70-80% GPU useage and I got up to 1015 MB of VRAM (the gts 250s have 1gb each) on both cards. this is with settings on ultra.

with setting on medium cut those values in half. that wasnt as much fun to look at.
